With Thanks - for Spencer
For Mr Spencer Antle,
It’s rare that I feel so inspired by a brand that I seek out the creator directly. My recent experience with Island Company here in Edgartown, MA was breathtaking, and I’m not being dramatic. I’ve summered on Martha’s Vineyard with my in-laws for years, and I’ve never enjoyed shopping downtown. The area doesn’t cater to our style - the redundancy and predictability of stores is tiring. But, stepping into your store was absolutely escapist - to the core. The personality of your shop, the demeanor of your staff and the evident philosophy of your brand’s approach was refreshing and deeply magnetic.
My husband and I are Massachusetts natives, with an insatiable urge for island adventure. You’ve brilliantly captured so much of what we enjoy, from the prints you create, to the books you lay on the shelves.
As a market research professional, I swim in brands, and pay close attention to how companies speak to their clientele, and how they listen. professionally, I’m intrigued by your philosophy and wildly impressed with your creative implementation. personally, I’m just thrilled to have found you.
With gratitude,
Kito C.

A True Escapist!
This is a portion of an email that we received from a true escapist, Meg:
Hello, My name is Meg and I have always been a fan of your motto, “Quit your job. Buy a Ticket. Get a tan. Fall in love. Never Return.” The first time I saw one of your stickers was on the dashboard of a car in my dorm parking lot. I immeditely went online and ordered a bunch of them to spread the love. I went to school in St. Augustine Florida at Flagler College which is right near the beach and in a pretty laid back town. I did not learn to appreciate the motto completely until after I graduated. After spending my last summer in St. Augustine, I moved up to Boston to find a “real job”. Being far from the beach, having to trudge to work in 10 degree weather in exhausting amounts of snow and not seeing a palm tree or sunlight for 4 months, I decided I had given Boston enough of my time and called for a change. A friend of mine was living in Hawaii and loving it. She had also attended Flagler with me and knew how much I was craving some beach and palm tree time. So after 10 months of living in Boston, I decided to quit my job ( I was working in an office for 9 hours a day with eye surgery products), buy a ticket ( still working on that, Hawaiin airlines tends to fluctuate) get a tan (never thought I would not have one) fall in love ( I do have a love ;) and never return. (maybe back to the mainland, but never to a cubicle ever again).
Attached is a picture of me trying to make Island Life work in Boston…. :)
Let me know what you think…
Thanks for your time,
Meg from Florida->Boston->Hawaii
Meg, we think it’s awesome! Good Luck and keep us posted!
Feeling the Love!
